Stage Engineering Steel Structures

The foundation of the stage technology is formed by robust steel structures that ensure flexible use and high load-bearing capacity. The fly grid extends as a steel grating area measuring 15 × 12.5 meters above the stage. The front-of-stage fly floor is located at a height of +11.2 m and measures 7.10 × 1.85 m. Acoustics are optimized by a total of 150 square meters of sound absorbers.

For safe and efficient workflows, circumferential working galleries are installed, supplemented by access and connecting walkways. A steel staircase with handrail provides access from the first working gallery to the fly floor at +18.42 meters.

The stage engineering steel structures also include fixed portal towers which, together with the vertically movable portal bridge, form the technical portal. A raised steel substructure measuring approximately 12.5 × 14.5 meters supports the stage floor. The orchestra pit extension, with an area of 3.20 × 8.80 meters, is constructed in the same manner.

For lighting purposes, lighting bars and various spotlight outriggers are installed on the first and second balcony levels.

Client: City of Nordhausen
Execution: Joint Venture ATI – TNO

Project period: 2018 to 2026

Scope of services: Overhead stage machinery, stage control systems

Overhead Stage Machinery

The overhead stage machinery comprises a total of 37 control axes and is equipped with modern motorized hoists. It includes 20 scenery hoists, supplemented by 4 panorama hoists. The zero line accommodates the main curtain, scrim hoist, and an acoustic ceiling hoist.

Three lighting hoists are available for stage lighting, along with a portal bridge and a front-of-stage hoist.

The overhead machinery also includes three gallery hoists that were taken over from the temporary venue and adapted accordingly. Side-stage and rear-stage doors with counterweight balancing form the closures to the ancillary stage areas.

Additional Systems and Control

Further safety-related installations include the fire curtain as well as one smoke vent each for the stage and auditorium, together with their respective counterweight-balanced drive systems. A total of three control axes were installed for these systems.

Operation of the entire stage technology is carried out via a main control desk and a secondary control desk, which can be used at a total of five connection points. Separate control stations are provided for the side-stage and rear-stage doors, the fire curtain, and the smoke vents. A dedicated test and maintenance panel is available for inspection and repair work.

In total, 42 drive axes were installed across the entire system, ensuring flexible and safe stage operation.
